Tax invoice vs bill of supply vs e-invoice IRN

A tax invoice, a bill of supply, and an e-invoice IRN are different documents. Software that prints a tax invoice is not the same as NIC e-invoice.

Educational summary. Not legal, tax, or filing advice. Confirm with the notified GST law and your Chartered Accountant.

Tax invoice

A GST tax invoice is the bill a registered supplier issues for a taxable supply. It carries GSTIN, HSN or SAC, place of supply, and CGST/SGST or IGST. See the Rule 46 explainer for the usual field list.

Bill of supply

A bill of supply is used when you cannot charge tax on the invoice in the cases the law allows (for example composition dealers in the situations the rules name). It is not a tax invoice with a CGST/IGST split. Ask your CA which document you must issue.

E-invoice IRN

An IRN is a number from the NIC e-invoice portal for notified taxpayers. Generating an IRN is a portal step. One Stop Invoice creates GST tax invoices. It does not generate an IRN and it does not file GSTR-1.

How this product fits

Register, then generate a tax invoice in the app. Export PDF or email. If you are notified for e-invoice, your CA or a NIC-connected tool handles the IRN. Do not treat this site as e-invoice software.
